"Penny Stock" IPOs NOW ACTIVE: Geno Smith, Manziel, McIlroy, Matt Barkley, Kyrie & More
On Thursday (4/25) we launched 32 different cards that are affordable on any budget. All 32 of the cards come from the popular Sports Illustrated for Kids inserts, which are famous for featuring the first legitimate cards of Tiger Woods (1996) and Andrew Luck (2011) among many others. 29 of the 32 cards are priced at less than $1, and all of the cards started at less than $5. The IPO includes stars from 10 different sports, and 18 of these athletes have never been traded in single-card form on thePit. Highlighting the IPOs are two of the top QB prospects for the NFL Draft (Geno Smith and Matt Barkley).
All of the IPOs will trade on thePit as "ungraded" cards (NOT as uncirculated), which means that shipping/handling charges are at the minimum level. However, to maintain quality control only the cards currently held by thePit can be bought and sold; these cards will not be accepted for deposit into Pit accounts.

*** IPO Spotlight: GENO SMITH ***
Geno Smith finished his West Virginia career with over 11,000 yards passing, a 67% completion rate and 98 TD tosses vs. only 21 INTs. Some wondered if he was “athletic” enough -- until he led all QB’s at the scouting combine with a 4.59 40-yard dash time. Geno is now expected to replace Mark Sanchez as the Jets' starting QB.
*** IPO Spotlight: MATT BARKLEY ***
For the first time, thePit is offering USC QB Matt Barkley as an ungraded single card. Barkley’s decision-making has been praised since his high school days, when he was the 2008 Gatorade National H.S. Athlete of the Year. Once touted as the #1 pick in the draft by Mel Kiper, his stock has fallen in part due to concerns about arm strength. Veteran draft observers will recall that washout 1st round picks such as JaMarcus Russell, Ryan Leaf and Dan McGwire were praised for their strong arms, while Drew Brees and Tom Brady fell due to concerns that their arms were NOT strong enough. Experience has shown that the most important part of a QB’s body is not the arm but the brain, and Barkley has one of the best track records in recent college football history.
*** IPO Spotlight: JOHNNY MANZIEL ***
You can’t be a bigger college football star than a Texas-based Heisman Trophy winner who has three years of remaining eligibility. The legend of Johnny Football started in his central Texas high school days, but it didn’t go national until Manziel moved 200 miles east to succeed Ryan Tannehill as the Texas A&M signal-caller. His 2012 season stands as one of the most astonishing and entertaining performances in NCAA history. Manziel led the Aggies to an 11-2 record and a #5 final ranking with an unprecedented combination of passing and running skill. He completed 68% of his passes for 3,700 yards and 26 TD’s while rushing for 1,400 yards and 21 TD’s. He was responsible for perhaps the two most remarkable games of the season. On Nov. 10th at #1 Alabama, he led A&M to an upset of a Crimson Tide team thought by many to be invincible. Manziel completed 24 of 31 passes and ran for 92 yards as the Aggies handed the eventual champs their only loss of the season. Johnny Football did not rest on his laurels after receiving the Heisman. On Jan. 4th he was named MVP of the Cotton Bowl as the Aggies demolished #11 Oklahoma. By gaining 229 yards on the ground, Manziel set a record for QB rushing in any bowl game.

Baseball America released its widely-anticipated Top 100 Prospects List on Tuesday (2/19). Many commentators will now break the List down to divine the future of their favorite major league team, while fantasy baseball enthusiasts will use it to gain an edge on their competitors.
Here at thePit, we're interested in the List for one reason: to help our customers make decisions about speculative rookie card trades. Many of the Top 100 have cards already traded on thePit, and Pit IPOs for the 2012 RIZE Draft cards (scheduled for first week in March) will soon add many top choices from last year's draft class.
Earlier this week, we began highlighting (via Twitter) intriguing prospects for each team, starting with the NL East and the AL West, and covering two organizations per day. The full Tweet stream is available in the left-hand column of this page, and you can scroll down to see all of our comments.
We encourage you to ReTweet and/or reply to our Tweets, and we will respond by ReTweeting replies that we think are of interest to Pit members. If you feel a certain player's cards are undervalued, overvalued, or unfairly ignored, let us know with a Tweet to @ThePitCards and we'll broadcast your message to our rapidly growing base of Followers. If you prefer Facebook, we have recently established a page named "THEPIT.com Sports Stock Exchange". At this time, our Facebook postings are just duplicates of our Tweets, but the Facebook format may provide an easier way to interact with other Pit members and to create discussion for each featured prospect's cards. We encourage you to "Comment" below each Facebook photo of a featured Rookie Card. Is the card a screaming buy or a risky purchase? We know other members will be interested to hear your views.
Long-time members of thePit remember the site's own discussion boards that were so lively in the early days. Those discussion boards were discontinued years ago, but thePit community now has the opportunity to re-construct the fun of hobby banter, card promotion, cheerleading and trash-talking among like-minded sportscard fans, using the amazing social networking tools now available.

********************** RIZE DRAFT IPO (MARCH 8TH) *********************
*****************************************************************************************************
ThePit added eight prospects ranked among Baseball America's Top 55 when trading of 2012 RIZE Draft cards began on Friday, March 8th at 4:00PM Pacific. RIZE is a new Prospect-Driven Trading Card Brand, whose current baseball product is licensed and authenticated through Leaf Trading Cards, and manufactured for RIZE, specifically by Leaf Trading Cards. The top four picks in the draft (Astros' Carlos Correa, Twins' Byron Buxton, Mariners' Mike Zunino, Orioles' Kevin Gausman) are featured, along with Cuban stars Jorge Soler (Cubs) and Yasiel Puig (Dodgers), and #1 team prospects for the A's (Addison Russell) and White Sox (Courtney Hawkins).
19 OF THE 21 CARDS BEGAN TRADING AT LESS THAN $1! The RIZE cards represent the most economical way to speculate on these top prospects, some of whom have no other "base" cards yet available. ThePit is offering 21 different cards of 11 players, as several players are pictured on special "Strength & Honor", "Emergence" and "Prodigy" subset cards.

********************** SIX GRADED KOBE BRYANT CARDS ADDED TO THEPIT ******************
*****************************************************************************************************
The Lakers have struggled and disappointed this year, but 34 year old Kobe Bryant just keeps rolling along. The five-time NBA champion has played all 50 Laker games thus far, and he leads the league in minutes and field goals. Earlier this season, Kobe became just the fifth player in league history to reach 30,000 career points, and by season's end he should surpass Wilt Chamberlain to stand behind only Kareem, Karl and Michael on the all-time scoring list. In his 17th NBA season, Kobe still retains the ability to astonish -- not just on contested fall-away jumpers from impossible angles, but also with the occasional flash of youthful explosiveness that made him the Slam Dunk Contest winner as a rookie.
In the basketball card collecting hobby, Kobe sits atop the pantheon of current stars with LeBron and Kevin Durant his only peers. ThePit has this week added six graded Kobe rookie cards, which are available for immediate trading (click on each line below for current Pit Buy/Sell prices):
All of the additions to thePit above were suggested by a new member. ThePit is eager to work with members who have graded cards they would like added to the exchange. Please contact us at customer.service@thepit.com or call Operations Manager Frank Lewandowski at (805) 485-5700 to see how we can help you. We are primarily interested in graded cards which have a total market value [(Value Per Card) X (Total Population for that Grade)] of $5,000 or more, but we also make many exceptions. With commissions roughly half those of eBay's, and a format that allows "One Stop Selling", we can save you time and money. Give us a call!

********************** SUPER BOWL 47 TRADING ON THEPIT ************************************
*****************************************************************************************************
The Super Bowl represents one of the great card trading days of the entire sports year, and there were many angles to play this year. Here's a summary of the cards that we highlighted for action during Super Bowl 47. Click on each name for the current Pit Bid/Ask Prices:
ThePit is building out its offerings of vintage rookie cards from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Most of the new cards feature the last generation's baseball stars, but we are also offering a few football and basketball cards. The vast majority are Hall of Famers (Ripken, Boggs, Sandberg etc.) and HOF candidates (Maddux, Glavine, Biggio, Bagwell, Chipper etc.), while a few feature popular players whose legendary careers left them short of Cooperstown (Dale Murphy, Strawberry, Mattingly).
Most of these cards are just back from PSA and have never changed hands in graded form.
